Homemade Payday Bars or Salted Nut Bars

For our 4th of July celebration I made a tray of homemade Payday bars and promised to share the recipe.   What's a PAYDAY?  Oh SO money of course!   But a Payday candybar is pretty sweet to have too.  It's salted caramel peanut butter goodness.

And this is the homemade version from this housewife's kitchen!

Do you know what you'll especially love about this recipe?

It's quick, and easy, and oh so good.

The HOW TO,
This recipe, Salted Nut Squares, is from Taste of Home.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups salted peanuts without skins, divided
  • 2-1/2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 cups peanut butter chips
  • 1 can (14 ounces) sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 cups miniature marshmallows

Directions

  • Place half of the peanuts in an ungreased 11-in. x 7-in. dish; set
  • aside. In a large saucepan, melt butter and peanut butter chips over
  • low heat; stir until smooth. Remove from the heat. Add milk and
  • marshmallows; stir until melted.
  • Pour over peanuts. Sprinkle the remaining peanuts. Cover and
  • refrigerate until chilled. Cut into bars. Yield: 30 servings.

These bars have just the right amount of chew,
just the right amount of crunch,
just the right amount of sweet,
just the right amount of salty.
They're the bomb dot com. ;)

Oh and did I mention they're super easy to eat up, I mean whip up?

As most of you know, I {double love} hosting special parties.  After making these bars, I thought of a fun idea for a dessert bar theme: a homemade candy bar buffet! I've made a s'more buffet before, the traditional candy buffet, a mini pie bar, and a classic dessert buffet for previous parties.  I may just do a homemade candybar dessert buffet for a future party now!

If you want to create a homemade candybar buffet for your next party, I've gathered up some recipes from our www for you in addition to this Payday Bar recipe:

Homemade Twix
Homemade Butterfinger
Homemade Milky Ways
Homemade Snickers
Homemade Reeses Peanut Butter Cups

Those are just a few ideas.  I really want to create a dessert bar based on this homemade candybar theme now.   Please let me know if you do this, I would LOVE to see how it works out!

And now we know...
There is more to a Payday than money...

I always thought you'd have to use caramel in them... I guess that is what the sweetened condensed milk does :) can't wait to try these!
