Our NEON SUNSHINE summer celebration (part 3 of 3)

Well, posting three days in a row didn't quite happen as planned.  But, it was my Dad's birthday last night and I was having busy fun with that! I'll be sharing pictures of that later on too of course.

This is part THREE of a THREE part series.  See part ONE and part TWO for the complete details.

Remember our Summer Sticker Reward System for this year?  One of the surprises that the boys opened up in their reward envelope was a NEON SUNSHINE party day!  This included bubble gum ice cream, shooting water balloons with bb guns, hiking, and creating nail art under our beautiful Colorado skies!

We started our summer evening off with the homemade bubble gum ice cream--our dessert with hints of neon in it.

Then we packed up our neon party fun AND hiking shoes AND hammers with nails AND bb guns for a Colorado outdoor adventure.  What a combination but it fits our family so well!

Time for our neon sunshine celebration:
Neon Sunshine are summer days that say,
"look at me, here I am!".
They're glowing bright with loud colors of fun,
ready to dive into and enjoy.

On our evening adventure we walked, climbed, and ran some trails.  The boys are easy to spot in those neon shirts!

For a 100% fun BOY surprise Chris set up our bucket of neon waterballoons as bb gun targets for the boys.

Water-filled, neon balloons balancing on desert rocks

With the streams of sunlight showing through, these water balloons look way to pretty to shoot says this girl!

Chris helping the boys load up the tiny, pretty, shiny silver balls into the bb guns.
Saftey first: protective glasses, check. Gun safety on, check.  Pointed in the right direction, check.

Each boy found so much enjoyment from this activity.  Those water balloons were hard to hit!  It was a gorgeous summer evening with the National Monument as our backdrop!

Sometimes it would hit a perfect hole in one and water would just stream out like a miniature drinking fountain.  Other times, the entire balloon would smash open with water spilling out.

What an easy way to make boys smile...

After every single balloon was popped and every single pretty piece of ripped balloon was picked up, we started on our NEXT activity: neon nail art.  Nail art has been cycling with waves over the internet this year and I've been wanting to join in and try it too!  Have you seen some of the incredible banners of words made with nails and string?! Fascinating.  We did our own mini versions.

Each boy had a block of wood with their name on it.

We had nails and little hammers ready to work!

To create nail art, hammer nails into points of the art design or shape you're trying to make then wrap and wrap with string!

Lines of bright string ready to be transformed into art!

Bright yellow and bright pink string stars in the making...

We all made stars!

Our evening out included:
-bubble gum ice cream
-bb gun water balloon target shooting
-hiking
-creating nail and string art

The kids still have a handful of their summer reward envelopes to earn and redeem! Most of them are simple summer pleasures like running in the sprinklers and freezing juice into popcicles but this was a bigger activity and we loved it!

It was a family summer night designed for happy little boys.

The ones who add the bright to my days.

Our Neon Sunshine day means
that it's a day that shouts out loud with color,
and won't get lost in the blur or life
but instead proclaims,
"here I am!  I'm a good day!".

Neon Sunshine is a yellow highlighter
rubbing across these memories we make
so they stand out in time.

Neon Sunshine days are bright summer days
filled with bits of playful happy.

This concludes the NEON post series.
