Rub Some Pretty On

Organization is so cool. It is my happy place. I enjoy creating ease and order with our everyday living.

I have tried nearly everything to organize my spices (yes even those handy spice racks...hated those!) My Mom has custom spice cabinets built into her kitchen.

But nope.

Not me.

So the search went on until I found this website and her simple idea. Yes, I've linked to her before...she's GOOD!

This is easy, cheap, and effective. These baskets are 2 for $1 at the always exciting Wal Mart (yes, I'm being sarcastic).

I am also short so reaching the TOP SHELF is never an easy task! The top baskets hold our medicine and vitamins. These baskets effortlessly slide on and off my shelves, making things within reach for all the shorties.

I grouped the spices into types depending on their designated uses and put the groups in their own baskets. I added Martha Stewart tags to each basket for a finishing touch.

And...ta da...organization in 3 minutes...It really IS that quick and simple!

Notice the turning tray on the bottom shelf. I have used this for years and it works well to access items that are used often!
Spin, find, and grab...

OKAY, I have one more set of kitchen cabinets to share with you...And just in time for your holiday baking!
I put together my own baking Tupperwares when I was 19 years old, in my first home sweet home. And I was ready for an update.

Pretty is for girls.
It's what we do.
It's our thing.

So I was on a mission to change these Tupperware babies up a bit! I raked the entire www looking for fun labels and finally found them HERE on etsy of course! This etsy store, Picadilly Peddler was a delight to work with and she was able to customize my order JUST as I needed! I was very pleased after all my searching!

These are my baking shelves before I made them PRETTY!

BEFORE
still one of my favorite cabinets, looking pretty darn cool
but I wanted some changes

DURING:

Rubbing some pretty on!

AFTER:

I used light green CHALK INK (which I LOVE,click for info) for the little extras:

Storing your powders in Tupperwares allows them to stay fresher longer, and makes it very simple to level off your measurements.

How do you store your baking goods?
Share your ideas.
If you have any easy kitchen organizational tips, I would LOVE to hear!

In closing I want to share this photo of a kitchen to.die.for.
Someday maybe I can have a sweet cottage kitchen like this.

Lisa, you are so organized! Love what you did with those rub-ons on the tupperware. Where did you find the rub-ons? I would love to do something like that to attempt to get myself organized! ;-)

Hi Lisa
Love your new labels! How organized you are... I can hardly imagine a cabinet so organized that you don't lose items on the shelves!!!

How about me sending you a ticket to Florida so you can organize my kitchen and office? I can never seem to get this done...or when I do, I can't seem to keep it straight. Organization is truly a gift...and one I possessed only for a short time. Now I am always searching for something...and usually not finding it. I need HELP!

Hugs,
Jane (artfully graced)

ah, just love that bottom photo--pretty!! I love your labels--that really made an eye catching difference. I don't have that nice kind of shelving or storage. I still need to work on mine. I find the flour takes less space if I just leave it in the bags and I stuff them in my Island area ---perhaps I need to experiement!!! I ended up putting all my gluten free flours (you need tons of different ones for different things--in my freezer!!). MY spices I have in several places. All my Mrs. Dash stuff is in a drawer. The rest is in alphabetical order on open shelving and in another closed shelf area. I do have a ton of spices as I do a lot of vegan cooking and you need spices to liven things up. But may be I should try putting my flour in containers--at least my hubby's flours!!

I love all your organizing ideas. I don't have any to add, unfortunately ;), but I do have a question -- maybe you've already answered this in another post. But I have a pile of videos/DVDs next to my tv and would love a neat way to organize them. Have you ever posted how you organize yours? Thanks!!

Hi Lisa
Thought I'd answer your question here...and drool over your organization once more.

Drummer Boy (he has the fullest beard...on the left) did ok with one batch of rolls. The other did not rise too well...but they tasted good. Not bad for a first try. His wife's apple pie was amazing! It was her first, too.

Hope you and your gang have a fabulous Christmas season... Take lots of photos!!!
Hugs,
Jane
