Healthy Fruit Summer Snacks for Kids (PART ONE)

This is PART ONE of a 2 part blog series
on healthy POWERSNACKS for kids.
Please see PART TWO for more ideas!

  Apple Disc Power Snacks

We are doing some school into the summertime.  Bummer for us.  I am mixing up our classes with some activities to encourage the boys to keep up their hard work!  After math class today, we all took a much needed break and created some PowerSnacks

Typically, whenever I have a little surprise to share with the boys, I start off by giving them a clue in their mailbox.  We have a "family mailbox" area by our back door.  (More on that in a future blog post...)
Today, I hid a paper plate and wooden fork in each of their mail folders and told them to check their mailboxes...

In the dining room they found our table ready to create Apple Discs!

I washed and cored apples...

And gathered fun toppings...

Our topping choices:

seeds and nuts

raisins

cinnamon

granola

mini chocolate chips

PB and rasins on my apple slices was one of my most loved snacks as a girl.
I added some more choices to a traditional snack.

The boys spread on the peanut butter and started creating their apple discs.

 Titus made a happy face...

He had to clean off some of that cinnamon... ;)

Kotah made layers of apple discs...

Cameron wanted everything on his...

We even made an Apple PB&J...

This was such a cool way to mix up regular snacks and make them extra fun.  The boys were able to run back to finish school with full tummies and clear minds.

This is PART ONE of a 2 part post series.  See PART TWO for more ways to enjoy fresh fruit powersnacks!

Great snack choice! I was just reading my new book about foods that lower blood sugar...apples and peanut butter are listed. Great way to start healthy habits!

Don't forget to stop by Artfully Graced this weekend...I have a giveaway poster...a choice of one of three crabby paintings...in honor of World Ocean's Day.
Hugs,
J

great snack idea! AND, your mailbox gave me great inspiration for an area by our backdoor. The papers, mail, notes are never-ending. This idea will work great for my family. Tks :)

So cute! Peanut butter is a must with a red apple. We go for cheese with a green apple. So many yummy choices!

I saw an idea like this on pinterest, and totally loved it. I don't even have baby nuggets, but it just looks so easy and delicious!

What a great idea! :) Mine would have pb and chocolate chips, because that is how this chocoholic pb lover rolls! :)

What's so nice about this is kids love to feel involved in the process.

My little guy loves a book about Curious George going to a pizza party where all of the kids created their own pizzas...so when he saw me making homemade pizza, he asked if he could make his own. Instant inspiration! Using whole wheat flour, I mixed up a batch of {healthy!} pizza dough and helped him roll it out. He loaded his own little pizza chock full of veggies, low-fat mozzarella cheese, and our own pizza sauce made from our garden-grown tomatoes, herbs, and spices that we canned. He loved being able to customize it himself - and I think it makes health food more palatable for little ones when they know what's going in their own food!

This is one of my favorite snacks too and one that my kids will actually eat. I only buy Skippy Natural and can't always find it here.

Speaking of holding back on the cinnamon, I just tried a new recipe and think they meant 1 tsp of cinnamon and I put 1 TBS. Yikes! Over the top cinnamon flavor. :/

Have a wonderful weekend. Tammy

This is so fun! We've made apple sandwiches before, but I love that you gave them a bunch of different topping choices:) My boys would love this except they insist that I peel the apples!
