I used plenty of little lanterns, old soda crates, fresh flowers, and my mom's vintage tablecloth to set the table.
Homemade Cold Buttermilk Fried Chicken
Sandwiches filled with cold cuts and veggies
Egg Salad sandwiches
Macaroni salad from the local deli
Fresh Melon Ball salad with a caramelized orange juice & ginger sauce
Tapioca pudding with fresh blackberries and whip cream
Layered Green Salad with homemade dressing
Homemade Chocolate Sheet cake with chocolate cream cheese frosting
Fun chips
Jars are an excellent way to hold picnic food! They transport easily and look much prettier than tupperware. It's a simple way to add beauty to the table and still keep it functional.
Salad works well in larger cracker jars.

The "necessities" are hidden in an old coke crate.
Wipes for messy fingers and lotion samples to smell sweet after the meal is done.
And the kids thought a blanket worked better than a table...
Picnics give delight to little hearts
who want room to run,
they give peace to older hearts
who need an escape from the fast food lines,
and they give joy to the families who gather around the splintered tables to celebrate life.

What is there about a picnic that makes everything look and taste so much better! There is nothing better than an old fashioned picnic.
Fabulous ideas. You are so correct - sandwiches wrapped in parchment paper, utensils snuggly surrounded by a napkin and ribbon, dessert served in a jar, candles in little lanterns - all of these touches add up to one special time. Great job on making your loved ones feel LOVED.

I loved going on picnics when I was little. We don't do it much anymore, because where we live eating on the deck feels like a picnic every time!
From your pics I can see you made some little (and big :)!) boys very happy!

What a beautiful, old-fashioned picnic! I want to come!
love love LOVED your picnic, its all about the details :)
Too cool for words! Using the jars has got to be the best idea ever. So precious.
I Love picnics but just don't get to enjoy them enough here in Hot-hot Texas. Yours was SO Dreamy! I'm kindof curious how you got it all there, could it have possibly fit in the one basket in the 1st photo? I'd love to see how you did the transport, or if it just took several different baskets, etc. And where might one find the large glass salad/melon jars? Speaking of, your food looked delicious; do you have recipes you'd be willing to share for the butter-milk chicken, and OJ Ginger sauce...that sounds particularly intriguing! I've never heard of it before.
Thanks for letting me ask all those questions. I just found your blog via someone else's via Pinterest. Thanks for sharing & happy Week!
