Casper Cups and Candy Corn: a classic welcome to the season and projects for kids

Peek-a-BOO!  These little Casper the friendly ghost cups are the closest thing to scary Halloween we'll likely ever have in our house.

A lonnnng time ago (2009) ;) I shared an after school treat of CANDY CORN CUPCAKES.  That was back when cupcakes became super popular and hit our world with a whirlwind of creative cool, followed by the donut craze, and then macaroons, what's next?  In that candycorn sunshine post  I shared our family's sentiments on why we don't celebrate Halloween.  But then this year happened and I let this adorable little Casper ghost peek-a-boo his way into our home.  As soon as I thought of this after school snack idea, I decided that a little friendly ghost couldn't hurt anything.

I was inspired to make these cups after seeing monster cups on Pinterest via this fun blog: A Turtle's Life for Me.   I also thought about my turkey cups the boys and I made one year for Thanksgiving!

See HERE for details on these turkey cups

These are just as easy as they look to make!

CLEAR CUPS.
BLACK SHARPIE.
GLUE GUN.
MILK.
WIDE-EYED KIDS.

This was an after school treat to kick off the early fall season!  We each made our own Casper Cup, filled them with milk to make it like a ghost, and served it with candy corn and grapes.

We've never had tv, but I let the boys watch an old classic episode of Casper the Friendly Ghost on Cameron's kid computer.

Adorable with a mouth...

And mysterious without a mouth...

This reminds of a kid's fun day fall kick off we did last year at my Mom's!  We spent an afternoon making fall cheese and apple slices, sliced caramel apples, and watching Charlie Brown's The Great Pumpkin.

This year = Casper Cups & CandyCorn while watching Casper the Friendly Ghost.

Last year = Sliced Caramel Apples while watching Charlie Brown's Great Pumpkin.

If you want fun PUMPKIN PROJECTS to do with your little people (or without!) I have a mini collection here on the blog. These are projects I did quite awhile ago but they're still fun TODAY.

1) toilet paper pumpkins that I made when I was "kind of" newly married in 2002!
2) dryer vent pumpkins that I made when I had a house full of toddlers in 2004!

I'll be sharing A LOT more fall ideas {both old and new} in upcoming posts!

I'm an autumn girl.
My arms are stretched wide open waiting to embrace
the sound of crunching leaves under my Ugg boots,
the feel of my fingers getting warm while clutching a mug of cozy apple cider or hot soup,
the sight of our world colored in a
burnt orange and golden yellow canvas.

"It is only the farmer who faithfully plants seeds in the spring,
who reaps a harvest in autumn."

Love the casper cups. I think I might have to make those with the mummy hot dogs we do (def more silly than scary). I'm not a fan of the scary in Halloween either, but we love dressing up as a family. This year the kids are going as the kids in Narnia.

How cute and fun! Growing up, I loved watching Casper (heck, I still do!)--I'll have to remember this for when I have kids. Thanks for sharing--I'm your newest follower.
