Decorating with Wintertime Cozies

Winter, Winter!
ice cold hands wrapped around giant hot cocoa mugs
the fresh, clean beauty of waking up to fallen snow
the biting air sensation that reminds me of my modern day blessings
an excuse to just BE, to simply experience the quietness of life
riding around in a toasty warm car

and my FAVORITE parts....
the cozy cozy cozy stuff!!
big blankets,
legs curled under while curled in a couch corner,
fluffy fur,
cuddles to warm up,
mittens wrapped snuggly around every single finger.

It's the season of comfort and coziness. January is new and fresh. After December, I clear out the excess and replace it with soothing whites and winter accents.

In January, Christmas decor comes down, except a small reserved collection of items that can qualify as "all winter long" decor, not just "in December" decor.

A lot of pretty things get overlooked in holiday decor, so reserving just a few to stay in our home beyond Christmas, pulls our eyes to things possibly missed before...

My mantel, all in clean, simple January, silver.

My crushed mercury comes out!

And silver seems to fit just right for the cold months.

Last year during winter, I maintained a lot of white.
This year I flirted with some fun color in the kitchen.

I still have my jars of SNOW out.

Last year's coffee table was all winter white,
bringing the cold and bare nature in.

TABLE LAST YEAR:

Lil bit of changes this year...
THIS YEAR:

Ice skates and snow

in an over sized glass hurricane.

Again, I have more leftover Christmas decor. These snowflakes are ornaments that get lost on a tree among other things. When pulled out and used in winter decor, they get appreciated more.

I use a cozy scarf as a table runner for wintertime.

This winter themed muslin ribbon
is from one of my favorite etsy stores: Shabby Chic Cottage.

In this photo, only the burlap potted tree remains from Christmas.

It's a good month
to reGROUP, to reORGANIZE,
and reEVALUATE...
because everybody needs a doOVER.

Lots of cookbooks in a row for cozy winter cooking!

More white with Rosanna dishes...yesss!!
I received Rosanna dishes for Christmas from my parents,
LOVE at first sight.

This calendar is in a not so traditional format
and was on my Christmas wish list from etsy...
thank you Chris!

I used mini clothespins
to hang each month on a long ribbon.

Books everywhere,
perfect for these months that we
cuddle up with a blanket by the fire.

I've mentioned before that I change family photos
with the changing seasons...

My favorite winter decor are my Anthropologie sweater candles from last year.

My Mom gave me some sweater pillows from Pier 1
to match my Anthro sweater candles!

Winter is all about texture,
soft stuff, and getting cozy....

What's this??
Do you KNOW?!!

It's my new Ugg handbag that I went crazy over and wanted for Christmas. Santa LOVES me! This will keep me SO HAPPY forever for at least the next 11 months until next year when I find something else I "must have".

Winter Moments are made for being cozy,
slowing down,
and reflecting on the simplicity that we've lost along the way.

Lisa, you did such a wonderful job with your decor. I loved it all. I don't really do January decorating because it just doesn't get that cold here. Now, watch it freeze! LOL! We are still pretty tropical year 'round except when the temps drop some. Speaking of which, if you get a chance, check out the tropical decorations they used on my house for the garden club tour. I love the starfish ones best.

XO,

Sheila :-)

Thanks for the many ideas...I am using a "winter" theme for Bunco this month...being in FL, my creativity was a bit stagnant. Now...I am brimming with ideas!!!

I sent you an email last week...looking for a resource you ordered the GIGANTIC marshmallows in your S'mores Bar post...and the tiny ones, too. Thanks

Those pillows are precious!

I love the slower pace of winter ~ a time to hunker down and reflect. Creating a cozy home for our families is essential!

Wonderful post!!!

How cozy and wonderful! I'm just starting to do some 'winter' decorating.....odd because we live in Central FL and it doesn't get very wintry here!! But it does chill and that gives us enough reason to light a few candles and break out the silver and white. Love it...thanks!
