Game, Music, and Book Mix BOY'S ROOM (part 1)

Link
This is part 1 of a 3 part blog series. Please view part 2 and part 3 for details on the other rooms.

I'm not too "theme-y" with bedrooms because walking into a room with a million supermen staring at me or feeling engulfed in Disney characters doesn't feel too peaceful. However, I do like to follow a style or idea theme to pull everything together and to prevent getting lost in a mismatched mess.

Instead of finding a favorite themed thing of the moment I decided to style each of their rooms according to their personalities.

Cameron is a serious boy who turned 30 on his first birthday!
He has an unending passion for reading. Cameron spends a lot of time thinking and thinking and learning and thinking. Because of that, games and strategizing are what he loves! He's a chess club, shirt tucked in kind of kid. {wink}

To promote his game-loving hobby, I keep games out and use them as decor in his room. One of my favorite ideas we did in his room is to use games as decor in place of art. It adds the game style to his room and also saves on storage space!

They each can easily be taken down to play.

More games used as home decor. Game pieces have much visual appeal and work well on display. Marbles and dice are too pretty to stuff in a box.

I found personalized Scrabble Game prints on etsy and FELL IN LOVE!!
His first, middle, and last name:

He sometimes goes by his middle name and wanted it for this vinyl art.

All the boys share the musical instruments but we store them in Cameron's room. Piano like their mama...

Guitar like their dad...

I'm a home school mama. The boys complete their school assignments in their rooms. Because of that, a large part of their rooms are STUDY SPACES.

School books and supplies...

You can view the details of his home school area in this post: Polka Dots and Crayons. I also share a bit about the pegboard message board that Cameron and I made together. I wanted something different than the typical bulletin board.

It's so much more fun to use an alligator to staple pages.

A few things remain from when he was just a BIT younger, because time passes so quickly and I encourage my boys to be kids as long as possible.

Wood castles and overfull bags of stuffed animals...

The trampoline takes over the room but that's OK because the boys all use it to freshen their minds after a long math class!

Cameron's room reflects our 10 year old: studious, over analytical, perfectionist, serious-minded, contemplative, thinker.

Coming up in Part 2: Dakotah's vintage urban room and study space.

His room is so fun! I love the colors and how the room reflects who he is. I can't wait to see the other 2 boys rooms.

You captured Cameron's personality perfectly. It is 100% "his style". But my favorite part of this post is the pictures of him. He looks so happy. It is obvious that HE loves the room you created for him. Well done Lissy!

This is such a cool room! Me and my hubbie love to play games as well, so this may be for a little boy but id take it, haha!

Wow, Lisa! This is soooo cool! I'm thinking I'm all neat cuz I have those dice, too! Clever you!

Hi Lisa
I love what you and Cameron have done in his room. The game boards on the wall is a great touch. Your young son sounds like my eldest...a thinker,an avid reader, and (once upon a time) a tucked-in shirt kind of guy. (This one is getting married next week!!!)

The photos of Cameron are wonderful. They seem to capture his spirit.
Smiles,
Jane (artfully graced)

I love it. Our kids' rooms don't have much of a theme except for the colors. Javi's is gray, steel blue, and sage. Bella's is powder blue, white, and yellow.

Lisa -
What a great theme for any boy's room! (In this case...YOURS! : ).
I love the dice book ends. I'd like to know where you got the elephant and alligator staplers? Those would be so cute in our school room. Would you mind letting me know, please? You can send a message through my blog, or email me directly:

Love the hanging idea! I'm picturing a wall full of game boards and a hook or individual small shelves for each of their game pieces.
(I would have to store the empty boxes somwhere because I'm anal that way.)
Great wall art!

Love those big wooden dice! The size and the color. You all won here!!!

I love this. I'm not big on theme-y rooms either. Though my six year old and I don't agree on that yet. ;)

YOu've done an amazing job. Pat yourself on the back! I've done three rooms so far, too, but two are theme-y (one because he wanted it and the second becaue it was SUPPOSED to be a playroom until we found out #3 was on his way). I like the understatedness of all of them. Not so overdone... I like that. I'm SO copying your corrugated metal on the walls-urban themed room becasue my 11 year old would LOVE that! :)

Great rooms! My son really likes the pegboard. How did you attach the clips? and are they movable or permanent?

I just found your blog today and I really love it. We have a few things in common it seems. I have 3 boys as well:) My name is lisa and my husband is chris. Kinda fun! I will be checking back in often now. I love how you celebrate each boys own personality. You are very inspiring. I'm happy I found your blog.
