camp SWEET camp: a S'More Dessert Buffet

This is part two of the CAMPOUT PARTY,

I have lots of little sWeeT deTaILs
to share about the S'more Dessert Bar that I created for Dakotah's camp out birthday. I shared the entire party last week so if you missed it, read up on that first!

I wanted to do a dessert bar to follow current party trends and thought a s'more dessert bar would be IDEAL for a camp out party!

I really worked on coordinating the colors with the nature around us. My intentions were to have the dessert bar blend in with the gorgeous mountains and not subtract from the natural outdoor beauty.

I thought it would be exciting to add some magic
for the little feet running through the forest
to literally just stumble upon a table piled with sweets,
like a fairy tale dream,
their big eyes almost missing it
because the natural colors of the dessert bar
blurred into the forest.

After setting it up, I was excited to see that the entire dessert bar ACTUALLY did blend in! {SCORE!}

Can you see it?
Here it is

For the sign, I used chalkboard place mats that I made earlier this year. I wrapped it with twine and used chalk ink and stickers.

I was most excited about the variety of marshmallows!! I had no little idea that marshmallows came in every size imaginable!

There are micro mini ones,
small ones,
regular ones,
and super sized ones!

(Yes, this is the type of information that makes me giddy). I already had the micro minis that I absolutely adore. I used them in a hot chocolate bar this winter, and for the cake topper for this party theme, and again for this s'more bar. I also used the regular marshmallows.

And the best part was a sweet surprise from my amazing cousin. She mailed me a huge package of super sized marshmallows (as a surprise!) to use for this party and I was literally in 7th heaven! It was JUST the perfect touch for this table {SMILE}.

These toppers were purchased from
PEASANDTHANKYOU on etsy.
She has such a kind heart and did very perfect work!
I highly recommend this seller for your next bash.

Super Size Marshmallow!

I also made some Marshmallow Cream S'More cookie bars. The boys ate so many of these they were too full for the actual S'mores...

The Hershey Chocolate candy bars had custom wrappers from Put a Wrap On it. She mailed these off super quickly to me and the quality was outstanding. I won these custom candy wrappers from Kim (thank you again Kim!).

Kotah was happy to see his name on a candy bar.

For a lot of the table accents I added worn items that appeared to have been left outside forever...

...and I also added elements of nature, like the twig, bark, and stick balls.

A simple piece of scrapbook paper is an easy way to add layers to your decor. And isn't this printed paper adorable?!

I'm a label addict. Everything gets labeled! For these labels I glued twigs to the labels and stuck them in pinecones. For the labels I tore up paper, crumpled it up, and gave it a coffee bath. After it dried, I was able to write on it. This created an antiqued, old feel with the labels.

There were 2 choices: traditional or Chocolate Peanut Butter S'mores. The last option is made with chocolate graham crackers and a Reeses Peanut Butter Cup.

I lined all the trays with camouflage scrapbook paper.

I found a LOT of S'More food products!

I so enjoyed creating this dessert buffet in the forest. It would have made a bountiful table feast for the birds and squirrels.

But the boys beat the animals and were ready to dig in...

Wow Lisa! If success is in the details you are the next Warren Buffet. I can't believe nobody saved any s'more bars for me! This dessert bar is my favorite you've done. The vintage decor and layered textures make it perfect.

Lisa, your mind just blows me away!!! This is a FABULOUS idea. I am gonna take it and run with it...we're past the camping stage, but I can see this as a party item for grown-ups...using the fire pit. Or for the next party my son and his wife have here...or maybe even for the rehearsal dinner for my eldest and his fiance next spring...SO MANY POSSIBILITIES!!!

Shhhh....don't tell Catherine (Sounds of Sight). I want it to be a surprise!

Hugs,
Jane (Artfully Graced)

Never thought of using scrapbook paper as accents on tables and such. I have plenty that I've never used for actual scrapbooking. Great idea. Oh . . . and I'll take a chocolate peanut butter smore. Wonderful post, Lisa.

hi lisa,
my friend emailed me the link to your blog when she saw this s'mores buffet! every year i host s'moresfest for 30 kids and their parents, and i include three types of grahams (original, cinnamon, choc), three types of hershey's chocolate bars (milk, dark, cookies 'n cream), and the kicker is all the types of marshmallow flavors: chocolate, strawberry, toasted coconut, original of course, and caramel/vanilla swirl. the flavored ones (all kraft/jet puff brand) are usually available at target and walmart, but lately they have dropped some of the varieties, which is a bummer! i also put out a container of peanut butter, a few bananas to slice up and this year i added those soft caramel cremes to melt in the middle of a s'more. it's always a fun party! i enjoyed seeing your version, mine isn't decorated as nicely as yours, even though i'm an artist! (kind of like how your hairdresser's hair always looks like it needs to be fixed!)
take care,
