Our Merry Little Mantel 2011

(please click here to see FULL Christmas home tour)

Favorite, favorite.  I could just copy and paste that word into every post this month since nearly every THING in December is my favorite.    Ever since I was blessed with a fireplace, decorating it has become a holiday favorite of mine.  Fireplace mantels go with Christmas just like peanut butter goes with jelly.

Last year I used a lot of recycled materials to create our mantel: Star of Wonder, Star of Light.  It was an interesting challenge and I so enjoyed it!

I used the same star that Chris and I made of scrap sticks last year for this year's decor.

However, this year my mantel decor was focused around my most adorable new sign. It's a smile-everytime-you-read-it type of sign.  The sign is beautifully made by Barn Owl Primitives (I've shared my other sign from them in a past fitness post.)  I just adore their work.

I really thought the colors were fun.  That rubbed green is just a tiny bit rebellious as it's not quite the traditional holiday green.

The garland is little clusters of dried sage from the high desert.

I used all real, dried florals for our mantel.  The wreaths are made from real dried flowers.  I've used them in our Christmas decor often in the past.  I bought them a few years ago in beautiful Crested Butte, Colorado.

This baby jar holds a cluster of matchsticks and the green is the same as the sign. perfect.

Our stockings are paired together, all super snuggly of course.

It's a cheerful little display
for our merry little Christmas.
And we all need a little
good cheer.

So, grab a handful of your favorite holiday treasures
and get to work on those mantels or shelves.
Because even just a tiny bit of Christmas spruce-n'
makes life just sweet enough.
